ARCA’s Psycho-Social Programme
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Neuro-Linguistic
Programming is the key component of ARCA’s Psycho-Social Programme:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of talk therapy, used in psycho-therapy. CBT
skills and tools can help you manage problems such as anxiety and depression, which are often
linked to substance use disorder. This is achieved by changing your thoughts, beliefs, and
attitudes, which influence your emotions and behaviours. Prolonged substance use disorder
can result in negative and destructive thought patterns. It is important to be able to look at,
evaluate, and change unhelpful thoughts as they come up. ARCA therapists teach you the skills
and tools to become more aware of the nature of your thoughts and to habitually reframe
negative thoughts into constructive and empowering ones.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) is another form of talk therapy and draws on CBT. DBT
is helpful if you experience very deep-seated emotions. You will be supported to understand
and accept difficult feelings and to apply DBT skills to bring about positive life changes. DBT
supports you to accept yourself as you are, whilst making constructive changes. If you have
substance use disorder, it is important for you to be able to acknowledge your problem, accept
and forgive yourself including your weaknesses, and at the same time work on improving
yourself. ARCA provides DBT as part of individual counselling as well as group therapy.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is referred to as the “Software for the Brain”. It is a model
for how your thoughts and the words you use affect yourself and the people you are
communicating with, and for how you can create behavioural change at an accelerated pace.
NLP techniques and therapies are effective in re-training the subconscious mind, which holds
95% power of the mind. This is achieved by programming constructive mindset patterns to
replace negative thinking, as well as by healing and releasing past hurts and negative emotions
that are stored in the subconscious mind. The root of substance abuse disorder in many people
lies in unresolved childhood and adult negative experiences that have been suppressed. ARCA
provides one-to-one NLP, to help you process, heal, and release negative emotions and limiting
self-beliefs at the subconscious level, thereby achieving personal transformation and life
mastery.
